WHO WE ARE:
The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is a federation of 10 Member Societies which together have nearly 120,000 members across the globe. Founded in 1931, AIP is a federation that advances the success of our Member Societies and an institute that engages in research and analysis to empower positive change in the physical sciences. SUMMARY:
AIP is seeking an Archives Fellow to join our Niels Bohr Library & Archives (NBLA) team in a grant funded initiative to draw attention to the key role that women have played and are playing in advancing the physical sciences by increasing access to archival collections that highlight the contributions and work of women.
The Archives Fellow will collaborate closely with librarians, archivists, historians of science, and science communicators to support and enhance the documentation and visibility of women in the physical sciences. This role involves conducting in-depth oral history interviews with women in science, contributing to the preservation and expansion of underrepresented voices in the historical record. The Fellow will also work to improve the representation of women in the physical sciences on Wikipedia by participating in and supporting edit-a-thon events that enhance content accuracy and visibility. Additionally, the Fellow will showcase the stories and images of women in existing archival collections by writing feature articles for blogs and newsletters and contributing to social media outreach. A key component of the role includes actively encouraging the donation of photographs, biographical materials, and personal narratives—particularly from women in physics, astronomy, and related disciplines—to enrich and diversify the archival record.
Join our team of energized, charismatic, collaborative, and passionate individuals, and contribute to making a difference in the field of physical sciences!
