ACADEMIC AFFAIRS ANNOUNCES AN OPENING IN THE LEARNING RESOURCES CENTER
POSITION: Library Technical Assistant – Public Services
Description of Duties: Primarily responsible for assisting the Librarians with covering LRC public service areas – specifically the areas of Reference and Circulation. Assist with working on special projects and assignments. Report to the Director, Library Services. Assist in all areas of the LRC and provide coverage and breaks for regular and part-time staff. Assist LRC patrons and telephone callers with the use of LRC computers, indexes and reference materials. Assist LRC patrons with microfilm copier or other duplication equipment. Maintain online calendars for Information Literacy Orientation Lab and help schedule classrooms and study rooms. Perform reference tasks such as conducting searches of electronic databases as directed. Troubleshoot computer and printer problems in the Information Literacy Orientation Lab and other areas of the LRC by resolving minor issues and reporting major issues to the necessary individuals. Maintain the appropriate toner and paper supply levels for equipment in the LRC. Perform basic maintenance on computers and equipment in the Information Literacy Orientation Lab and other areas of the LRC to include cleaning screens, mice, mouse pads and keyboards. Assist with writing and editing LRC publications including the development of tables, charts, and graphs. Assist in the design and development of exhibits and signage for the LRC. Assist in the maintenance of the LRC web pages and the development of new web pages. Assist the Dean and Librarians in the planning and implementation of special projects and marketing efforts. Assist in the management of assignments and projects of other part-time hourly staff of designated LRC areas. Assist in the supervision of evening and weekend Circulation staff. Perform all Circulation functions to include the re-shelving of books and the maintenance of the Circulation database. Assist with entering financial information and data into PeopleSoft financials. Perform closing duties of the LRC each evening and ensure the proper shut-down of computers and equipment in addition to securing of monies and assigned area. Regular attendance is an essential function of this position. Perform other related duties as assigned. May assist in the supervision and training of part-time hourly and work study employees. Work under limited supervision. Receive training and guidelines from Director, Library Services.
Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent; six months work experience in a library public service area. Good communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Proper and professional phone etiquette. High level of proficiency with computers and MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel and Publisher). Must be attentive to detail and maintain professionalism at all times. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Ability to perform minor maintenance on computer hardware and troubleshoot minor computer issues. Moderate lifting up to 35 lbs. Moderate carrying up to 35 lbs. Ability to push and pull loaded book trucks. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent standing, sitting, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping.
Desired Qualifications: Associate degree in LTA or related field. Two years work experience in a public services area of a library with a computer-based library catalog. Proficiency with MS Access, HTML, XML, and/or Photoshop. Ability to create and update web pages and work effectively with social media tools.
